Hello my dear brothers and sisters! I would just like to tell you a quick story about my walk and the dramatic change i have recently undergone to introduce myself to you all!

I was born into the COCND (Church of Christ non denominational) in Australia a very conservative group, the non denominational means that we do not have a hierarchy and each church leads in the way it believes it should completely independent of others baring the name Church of Christ.

For years I was taught that we had the one truth, the only truth and that others not worshiping with us in the same city were doomed to hell and not considered part of our fellowship much to mine and many of my brethrens detriment. The story of my upbringing and church involvement is one of pain, bitterness and anger not only for myself but many loved ones, friends and associates all across Australia. The Conservative attitudes of most of the churches in our group bound certain doctrines such as, we are the only ones saved, Drinking of any kind is a sin, musical instruments are sinful and anyone using them is not saved, our charity money must go only to churches we agree with on all doctrines etc etc .... These ideas, although not specifically intrinsic with the name Church of Christ, were commonly used in Australia and still are in many COCND churches in Australia...
Recently my concerns on these and many other matters have been stirred up PRAISE GOD!

I have challenged myself, my partner and our current church leadership to wider more liberal views first and foremost on Christian Fellowship with other Brothers and sisters from all denominations and walks of life! And through speaking to some very special associates who i know through our church group, I have realized that I am not the only one who has realized a problem with some of our doctrines and who wants a wider reaching fellowship with other Christians and change from our ultra conservatives views.

So anyway to wrap up, I have been held back, held back from living, loving, held back from sharing, from fellowshipping with many other Christians sometimes right next door and held back from living a more effective life for Christ by using our gifts, banding together with Christians of All walks, sharing resources, sharing knowledge sharing physical things and working together for God.

I feel I have been released from years of oppression and darkness into a light and today, today is the first day i reach out to a wider Christian Community hoping to make friends, to enjoy fellowship and continue forth on a path of freedom in Christís name. I hope that I have equally run into free Christians here at Christian Forums and look forward to making friends and of course sharing Christ with many of you in the Future!

God Bless us all!

Peace be unto you brother Garth,

I have read your post and like you, Iím a bit puzzled as to why no one has responded. Your post made a lot of sense to me and from your words; I could feel a sense of relief on your part.

Most everyone claims to have a monopoly on the truth and itís either their way or the high way. Let me put your mind at ease brother and tell you that this disease is NOT exclusive to Christianity. I am not a Christian as you would understand a Christian to be. Yet I believe in Jesus the christ, the son of Mary and love, revere, and respect him dearly, (may the peace and blessing of God be upon him).

Looking at the issue from a totally different view from you and as an outsider, I believe the church has a lot to answer for when it comes to the way a Christian believe. Over the years, I have acquired 9 different bibles and have read them from cover to cover to see if I could find the truth within.

If you havenít gathered already, I am a Muslim. I truly believe that the ultimate test between you and me is to see if we are going to judge each other based on our faith in God, or our conduct towards each other. You have people on both sides, who love nothing more than to judge whilst ignoring to have a good long hard look in the mirror.

The Holy Qurían states: O mankind! We created you from a single(pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of God is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And God has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). (49:13).

Thatís the test I was talking about Garth. You have people who claim to be ďgodlyĒ, yet their conduct and behaviour towards their fellow human beings would make you wonder.

Forgive me if I somehow shocked you with this reply; Iím confident it was not what you had expected. All the best to you brother.

Hey Garth,
Great to hear of your new found release from the yoke of religiosity - sadly I have found man gets caught up in his own vain philosophies, falling into idolatry and
by making "God" out to be something of his own imaginings. My pastor was raised Church of Christ but is now Vineyard - going completely into a new paradigm, altogether
at odds with where he grew up.
Freedom in Christ Jesus is the most amazing thing we can ever expect in this world, so I would like to share with you in your new found liberty also. i live in Ballina 2hrs
south of Brissy with my Wife & five children. I thought I was a christian for 18 years until I , but by the grace & mercy of Yahweh' Holy Spirit, was saved by faith - repentance towards a Holy God, and trust in the person & work of His son Jesus Christ. Now I have a thirst for discerning truth & a passion for the lost & decieved.
True Christianity is not by "fig leaves' of works & hopefullness but is entirely of God & his loving kindness that all of mankind should return to him thru the Atonement of His son on the cross and in that there is full assurance of salvation.
Sorry got a bit carried away, if you want to talk , let me know where you journey is at and we could pray & fellowship further.
In christ alone
Tony

I dont have much time to write but i thought id give you guys at least some feedback.

Im so happy to hear that there are others who feel the same way and i couldnt agree more on many of the things you have both said.

I am convinced now that living by Gods grace and ignoring largely our differences is the only way to eternal life, Praise God!

If anyone else out there has any other thoughts on this concept of acceptance and Grace from our God please share them as I am sure you have at least 3 open minds right here to listen.

Thanks again guys!

It is so Good to be in Gods Grace is it not!

Garth

Greetings Garth,
Great to hear from you, my apologies for not responding earlier, weekends are pretty full at our place. I trust this finds
you & yours all well in the Lord Jesus. Your reply is valued but
I must hasten to add that unity for the sake of unity is not biblical. I will try to briefly explain my position on this.

We,as Christians serve an "awful" (as opposed to Pop cultures- "awesome" god)& Holy God, the God of loving kindness, truth, purity,
righteousness, mercy, judgement & grace. So I agree Garth, that we
should not be in denominations where we are under "heavy shepherding"
Jesus illustrates this in speaking to the Pharisees, who were bound by man made extensions of the Law, seeing it as a form of godliness. Yet Jesus said "my yoke is easy", it is in Him that our life is made holy. Not rules, regulations etc. that were not of God in the first place. So your new found freedom from this oppressive situation is an amazing revelation for you, of that I am sure!

However Garth, may I extend these words of caution, discernment & encouragement to you. Yahweh Elohim, wants to be worshipped in Spirit
& in Truth, all else is futile. We are called as Biblical Born-again Christians to accept & love all of mankind, yet not to lose sight of
the commands we were given & to uphold the treasure of the doctrine entrusted to us. If someone is preaching another Gospel or another Jesus we are to walk cautiously and test every spirit - prepared to exhort & rebuke lovingly & patiently. So please do not "throw the baby out with the bath water" with your new found zeal.

If there were 23 ways to God & eternal life found in the scriptures we could fully trust them all....but the truth is there is stated ONE WAY & that is thru our Lord & savior Jesus Christ... to God's Greater Glory. So please, as you journey do not lose sight of the foundational truths of His Word. Cling to them like you would a parachute before taking a 20,000 foot leap from a plane - continue to trust in Him & the power of His word to finish that good thing
he has begun in you. You are not alone brother, so hang in there,
do not allow any bitterness to grip you & always remember that "he died for us though we were yet sinners, the Just for the unjust"
There is truely no greater love than that....

In Christ alone
Tony
