Honoring Headship
Sometimes all you have to do is an extensive bible study on the subject and you will be helped. It is much better for you when you look up scriptures and base you faith on the Word of God. A healthy believer should develop convictions about these things through personal bible study. I always study out what people say, because then I can stand on the Word of God and say "this is what the bible says" not just "this is what my Pastor says". A good way to do this is to ask your Pastor for the notes he uses after he preaches a sermon, then go home and look all the scriptures up for yourself. This will be a great reason for you to study the Word, and to grow in the Word, developing convictions for yourself. You should not develop an attitude of being critical of his notes but use it as a base for yourself. Otherwise just take notes while the sermon is being preached. Another good thing to do is invite your Pastor around for dinner once a week, and develop a relationship with him. This will help you understand where he is coming from when he says certain things.
Here are some more scriptures to think about:
Heb 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
Pr 5:13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
Php 2:12 ¶ Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:
1Th 5:12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; 1Th 5:13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
2Th 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.
1Ti 5:17 ¶ Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
1Co 16:16 That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth.
Eph 5:21 ¶ Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
1Pe 5:5 ¶ Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Ac 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. Ac 20:25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. Ac 20:26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. Ac 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
1Co 4:1 ¶ Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. 1Co 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
1Pe 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 1Pe 5:3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
This are just a few scriptures, and are not exhaustive. I will post some more soon.
PS: I recomend that you read John Bevere's book called "under cover". This book will give you some great insight. I can send you a free copy if you like. Your pastor may own a copy and you could borrow it. The DVD series is fantastic, and a must see.

Posters Comment: This article came about on a news group by someone asking a question - it makes us all think how wonderful and great the covering of headship is.

The only headship I want in my life is Jesus Christ. Men can and will fail but Jesus never will. He will never leave us or forsake us. I love that about God. He loved us (me) so much that he gave his only son to die for us (me). How awesome is that! |

The bible is clear about having pastors and elders who watch out for our souls.
