Has anybody got any comments or advice on what should or should not be watched by Christians?

No R rated movies - of course
I also think that there is a lot of time wasting junk out there and Gay flicks are out too.

maybe a movie review from a christian and a thumbs up or a thumbs down beside each movie.

Or even a poll for a majority thoughts on it.

Just good clean Christian movies only thanks. No worldly junk. So that just about counts TV and Movies out for me.

Many christians will shudder at the thought of murdering someone or commiting adultery, but it seems that it is ok to watch someone else do it!

Being selective, reading reviews and watching trailers helps me to pick out what kinds of movies I go see at the theater or watch at home. There's also a place online that edits movies for people to buy or rent.

I recently watched Finding Neverland with Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp. A must see film. This story is about the playwright who wrote Peter Pan and the family who gave him the inspiration for the story. It's ok for any age.

I really wish that better Christian movies would be made. The technology is there to make some good quality stuff. It seems that almost everything brought out in the "Christian world" deals with the rapture. SOOOooooo tired of that theme.

The whole left behind thing is a little tiresome, I mean who in their right mind would believe that one minute you are having a bible study in an outlawed church and the next you are flying the world leader around the globe. It is just too far fetched. I liked the movie Flywheel, and if you haven't seen it it is a must. Some last days movies are great, but I think that they need to be alot more agressive, like the bible says that the tribulation will be the worst time that ever has been or ever will be, and yet most movies make out like it is life as usual except for a bit of martial law.

I see it more like if Bin Laden ran the world for 7 years. Make the tribulation like Nazi Germany and cut out the Antichrist trying to be accepted plot and the guy/girl relationship thing. Make it like 1984, just horrid.

I think that most have failed to portray the hoplessness of that time. The movie The Day After was very apocalyptic. I feel that people should come away thinking that they need to repent today, not thinking that if they miss the rapture there is still romance, job choices, and great friendships. I think people should leave disgusted. Look at the Passion, it was very realistic, but look at the results, many have been touched by it. Sorry for being morbid, but I think a film where they take people into concentration camps and turn them into glue would be a great tribulation storyline. lol.

Yes, the trib movies aren't realistic enough but I don't think that any nonchristian person would really be interested in them even if they were. My thoughts are more on making movies that deal with the problems of today, depression, hatred, loneliness, stuff like that. It would have to be a drama/action filled with special effects and stunts. Would love to see a film that focuses just on salvation and the love of God. Billy Graham made a film years ago called The Prodical. Now that was a good movie.

Haven't seen that one. Talking with Johnny Lee Clary (former leader of the kkk in the us) he said that they are going to make a testimony movie of his life - full holywood style. He said that he has had christian movie companies offer to do it, but he knew to have maximum impact on sinners, it needed to be more than just a "chrisitan" film, which repells most sinners.

If you can get your hands on a movie called "The End of the Spear" it is fantastic. Here is a link to the trailer.

Luther is one of my favs also I think it was very well done, although they seemed to rush the ending a little, after he got married it went to fast, they needed to show a little more space in between scenes. But otherwise very well done and also very accurate.

As a good rule of thumb, I would recommend to anyone not to watch anything that you wouldn't want your children to see...

Lord of the rings does not bring out a Christian message does it? Some people think it does but the good side deals with witchcraft too. And everyone knows witchcraft is from the devil.

Anyway I recommend The Prestige it is the BEST film I've seen in ages and it is interesting and mystifying.

So many cinema's are closing down in Melbourne and no wonder, theres so much rubbish being filmed, and people aren't willing to part with their money so quickly. But I suppose that has a lot to do with DVD'S and other forms of entertainment.

What about Saw? Does anyone recommend that? haha only kidding, i rebuke that trash! A great movie to watch is August Rush, predictable, but a nice movie to watch.
Would anyone else agree on this, that these horror movies we see are basically demons revealing themselves, like, what they look like etc? And to movie like Saw..revealing what they do to people in hell?..It's like they desensitise people from it making them not scared of what hell is all about, i know atheist's who are not afraid of hell, could this have anything to do with it i ponder!

I think it shouldn't be about content as much as it is the message, the metaphor. That and great characters and story telling really influences my choices in movies. For instances, the new movie Dark Knight. The depth of the character of Bruce Wayne may not speak to the christian society directly, but there is a message you can take from it, which is justice. I think it's always been about justice. Batman is a very strong image in this country because of the fact that he doesn't use guns. The villians I guess, like Harvey Two face represents a potential in every one to turn to a dark side, so to speak.

I may be a little more liberal with film and media then most, though. Try not to take my word for it.
I typically regard media critically being a student. Murder is never okay, but in most movies it's not really that big of deal. Psycotic villains kill someone, we're busy rooting for the good guys. You also have to remember that quite a few movies, like Tomb Raider 2, which, quite honestly, tanked- are commissioned by forgien nations for, what? Yeah. Monies.

It's always about money, that's why we get the hollywood kiss in almost every movie.

As a creator myself, I have to know where the balence is to portray a sense of reality, while still having the room to experiment and exagerate, even if slightly.

One of my most recent ideas was to create a story about a nun who fights crime with karate. Why? Because I saw a news program about nuns who study karate. It's based in reality. If I base the story on a japanese folk tale set in modern day newyork, on top of that, tell the story with only pictures, I think I have something pretty entertaining in it's innocence.

And by crime, I mean something mild and almost slapstick. You know, nun outsmarts, yadda yadda.. And judo chop..

Anyone who guesses that cultural reference gets a cookie, (circa 1997)

I digress. Watch movies, if it offends you, don't.

Also, I liked saw better when it was 30 seconds long and acted out with rabbits. (again, cookie for whoever knows what I'm talking about.)
